Consider this. According to the U.S. De...partment of Education, in the U. S., nearly 6.2 million students between the ages of 16 and 24 dropped out of high school in 2007; thirty percent of college and university students drop out after their first year, and half never graduate; 32 million adults or 14% of the population have low literacy skills; the U. S. ranked 35th out of 57 in mathematics and 29th out of 57 in science and reading scores and when last compared, the U. S. was far behind the education statistics of most other developed nations.
The Dr. Elisa Educational Foundation, Inc. (DEEF), founded in 2009 is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. DEEF believes that America needs to develop the talents and contributions of its entire people, in order to thrive and create a shared and prosperous future for everyone. Through a variety of programs and strategies involving research, analysis, advocacy, technical assistance, outreach and direct scholarships, DEEF works to accomplish the following: (1) Improve education programs and practice (2) Inform the public about education issues via research and policy analysis (3) Strengthen partnerships with parent, school, and private sector efforts to better meet the needs of vulnerable children, underachieving students and prepare America's future workforce (4) Provide direct scholarship opportunities to deserving youth who have a desire to offer greatness to their communities.
